“FEET AT 180!”. “SIT!” “BACK STRAIGHT!” “STOMACH IN!” “PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!”

We’ve all heard this before. As dancers, whether it be Bharatanatya, Odissi or even Ballet the aramandi position (a.k.a plié) is our bread and butter. But for a position that is so essential to our art form, not much care is taken to achieve it. Quite often we expect ourselves to be able to sit and hold aramandi and if we fail, the reason and solution is doing it again.

Not so simple.

There are various components that make up an effective aramandi position, most of which we can improve and a few that are set as they relate to the structure of our hip joint. Learn what you can and can’t control and empower yourself to improve your araimandi from within.

Look out for my next post which will explain the 5 essential components of achieving aramandi.
